how can i buy an old army hummer?

- some states do a auction every once in awhile for gov vehicles i think that would be your best bet.
- You can't. You could maybe find one, but Federal Law requires it be completely destroyed before taking it off of government property. So you would literally have to completely dismantle it, then cut up the frame, so what's the point? Look it up, it's common knowledge.
- Property Disposal Office(PDO) auctions happen quarterly. Check with the PDO to find out how to get onto the mailing list and what attendance & bidding requirements are. Sometimes military vehicles are sold through PDO after they have reached the end of their life cycle.
- well, do you really need a hummer? they are the jerks of all cars. no person needs that much space and such a big car, it is pointless and for all fo that gas being used and exhaust being emmited. it's disgusting. if you'll be using it, like in extreme terrains, then i suppose it's understandable, but if it's just for driving in the city, try a prius. they're phenomenal. and the people that drive them are the ones laughing now! sorry, hummers make me mad. but to answer your question, go to your local army office and talk to them about it, or google it.
- you dont want 1, you cant afford it.not only is the interior no frills,as in barely adequate(from whos point of view?) seating(not room, actual seats), but the 24 volt electrical is enough to break the bank, not to mention the cost of diesel.go ahead and start pricing bulbs, etc for that 24 volt system!i knew of someone who did this.
- You can find them for sale, but none are being sold by the government in auctions because DOT does not want anymore civilians buying directly from the government. That doesn't stop civilians from owning, it just means you will have to seek other avenues. First, join the Military Vehicle Association. It's a group of people who collect various military vehicles from bikes from WWII, to even tanks. Many of their member have Hummers for sale, typically the early 80's models. If that doesn't work for you, many contractor agencies restore and sell for the US government. If the price is right, they will sell them to you. These are the highest quality, best running Hummers you will find, short of being new, but they are very expensive. You can expect to pay $45k for the truck model, $60k for the four door model with light armor. I have even seen these military versions on eBay at times. Most are typically not street legal, and fun for just off-roading vehicles, sometimes painted various colors and have all kinds of non-standard equipment. You have to have all the lights and wipers working, and these tend to weather a bit the very moment they leave the base. But buying Military Hummers come with a warning, make sure it's legally sold to you. There were many over the years that were stolen from bases, and then sold to unsuspecting people who did not register them, hence how they can remain stolen trucks for a very long time. You do not want to get caught with a stolen Hummer. It would be better to get caught with a stolen car, than a Hummer because instead of it just being a local law enforcement issue, you will have the Department of Defense coming after you, if not some other federal agencies who will see you more as a threat to national security because guns and explosives often get stolen at the same time. They will want to check to see if you have anymore of their missing hardware. I think the best place, if you're really interested in a decent, good-priced, run of the mill Military Hummer is to join MVA. I am on their mailing list, and I see people trying to sell one every now and then for around $20k. I once saw one for $12 that needed a new motor and transmission. All the military guys were talking all kinds of creative ideas for a replacement, but I would just take an old diesel rig from a donor civilian truck, and swap everything making it cheaper to operate for day-to-day driving. A lot of the stock Hummers are Multi-fuels, so you do not necessarily have to burn diesel, you can burn gas, waste oil (from cars), WVO or virgin oils. Anything that burns will work if the temperature is right.
