Will the Army make you work a MOS that you weren't trained for upon deployment?
I am 28 years old and I originally wanted to join the Navy. I was recently told by a recruiter that all the ratings I am interested in are overmanned. The main reason I am interested in the military is because of the college loan repayment program (65Koffered by the Army and Navy) and of course the technical training (I am really into electronics technology). I am not interested in Officer careers because I want the technical training of enlisted jobs. Plus, how could I boss the enlisted around when I have never been in their place? Morally, I couldn't be an Officer. I have my doubts about America (my 6 figure education debt WTF?!?, health insurance problems, and the fact that 911 WAS a controlled demolition). I am wary of joining the Army. I want to fix electronics but I don't really want to kill anyone. Will they make me search caves, kick in doors, or drive a Hummer through landmines?

- Stay civilian. You will do the MOS you are trained to do. However their is a reason you have basic soldier skills like using your weapon. You may have to help out on a convoy and use that weapon to defend yourself and your fellow soldiers. Your camp may be overrun what are going to do then? Surrender?
- Do the U.S. Taxpayer a favor.....just stay a civilian O.K.?
- Except for doctors and nurses and other non-combatant types, you often cross train into other career fields. You may even have a "peace time" career and a "deployed/war time" career. As far as 911, if they did it by controlled demolition then why did they mess around with airplanes? Why did they just not wait until the buildings were full of people and then blow them down? Why did they give people time to get out? Do not be so naive.
- Um...let me tell you right now, if you believe that 9/11 was a controlled demolition, then the military is going to have some problems with you. That shit dont fly. Just saying. From what you are saying on here, the military isnt for you. The military doesnt want people who "doubt" america. Those people tend to cause problems in the military.
- there is ALWAYS the chance you will be called on to do collateral duties so yes if you cannot in good conscious do whatever they ask you to do then stay out of the military.
- Your whining and you haven't even joined yet.. stay civilian.
- Wow dude... education debt that equals my mortgage AND you think 911 was inside job. Just stay a civilian and get some help, please.
- Please don"t join my Army!
- If you are stupid enough to believe that 922 was a controlled demo, PLEASE stay out of the Army. "I want to fix electronics but I don't really want to kill anyone". What the...!
- All right, first off, I completely disagree with your 9/11 theory and you will find that a LOT of military people will find this offensive, as a fair number of them lost friends and acquaintances in the Pentagon, and most have friends or family serving in civil service positions in the government and so do not take kindly to theories which suggest that our government killed U.S. citizens in a massive terrorist attack. Secondly, if you are unwilling to kill another human being in self defense, DO NOT ENLIST IN THE ARMY. Just don't. Leaving that aside. Yes, the Army has been known to make people do jobs other than their MOS during a deployment. Mission first. The unit has to get its mission DONE, it doesn't matter who is doing it. It sort of depends on what job you pick out. For instance, if you pick cook, you need to know that most kitchens in Iraq and Afghanistan are staffed by foreign workers (from the Phillipines, Sri Lanka, Nepal, etc) so Army cooks are usually assigned to other duties. But if you pick a job like mechanic or electronics, you will more than likely be DOING that job, since we need our trucks and electronics fixed, all the time. With a job in electronics, you stand a fairly good chance of actually doing it on deployment, and a fairly good chance of never having to kill anybody either. But the possibility is always out there.
