US Army in Afghanistan?
I thought the US army were in Afghanistan to re-build/win hearts and minds/educate and help the stability? Why is it then when they drive through Kabul in their great big Hummers at 100km they are so aggressive? Is forcing civilians of the road at gun point really helping them? Every other nation working for ISAF are cautious, but are warm and friendly towards the local people. 081!!!!! I also climb into my (allegedly) armored vehicle every day in Kabul, but don’t act like a I’m here to kill the world!!!!

- When you yourself are surrounded by people that all look the same and you haven't a clue as to who you should and should not be weary of... then you can question the reasons. When you yourself are surrounded by thousands of cars and you have no clue as to which one does and does not contain a bomb... then you can question the reasons. When you yourself pass a heard of sheep and you haven't a clue which ones are and are not implanted with deadly bombs... then you can question the reasons. Are we there rebuilding and winning the hearts of those imprissoned in a life of poverty and despair brought on by their own people? Yes, yes we are. In everything they do, there IS a reason.
- Good question. I don't see their purpose there, except that people there have started to hate Americans more than ever before.
- its the american way.
- Nationalist militant superiority complex
- because they are United Scoundrel army
- My niece and her bf go there in April form here in the uk with the army, i realise this is a political situation but i am still very proud of her bravery to do such a thing in a foreign land for our country just like our fathers and grandfathers did through the ages. GOOD LUCK to all our boys and girls there!
- Sadly the Hummers don't go at speeds under 100km ! sometimes forcing civilans off the road can be the only way forward...... However you are right when you say that's not really a heart & mind game play..... the USA need to take a long look at the way the U.K ! go about things.....
- Perhaps the Americans are more of a target than a lot of other nations and therefor have to be that little bit more cautious, we have to remember that most of these young men did not join up to fight an illegal war but now they are there there is nothing that they can do about it and I would not be smiling much to people who may be instrumental in killing my friends. I heard somewhere that the number of a.w.o.ls is increasing for not only the Americans but also other nations including the British, soldiers or not some of these young men must be scared.
- Oh woe is me.. all these years I thought the U.S. Forces were in Afghanistan to capture the terrorist "responsible for 9/11 attrocities" ALLEGEDLY !! How wrong have I been all these years.. I must have missed the U.S. Commander-in-Chiefs words to the Nation shortly after 9/11....giving out the reason he was sending troops into Afghanistan. Silly me ! I can't ever remember HEARING in that speech ANYTHING relating to sending US troops - armed to the teeth - to Afghanistan in order to win hearts and minds there..... nope, there's enough links out there documenting each and every syllable he uttered to the NATION that day.. and not one "hearts and minds" Thank you for putting me straight !....I stand corrected. I shall sleep a whole lot better now knowing this !.... ;-) Now, UK troops have 30 years of EXPERIENCE.. having had Northern Ireland tours of duty, and THEY HAVE LEARNT from those experiences, but, sadly it APPEARS that U.S. Forces have their own way of dealing with Military operations - and that is - to learn the hard way.. and with peoples' lives. Talk to UK troops, LISTEN to what they have to say about thier N.I. experiences... it's based on 30 years experience, and has been PROVEN to WORK !
- REALLY 100 KILOMETERS ANHOUR. Were the He** do you get you info from. US as well as her allies only can go a certain KPH. Fudge what you see on the tele/ internet. You can only experiance it first hand. . If you were in a ombat area for more than a month wouldn't you find stuff like this a bit realiveing to know that somebody else understands what u are ging through......................by the way i have been there done that..........so sod off i know what these soldiers are going through
- When you have all of these people looking like civillians that keep trying to shoot/blow up you and your buddies, your not going to treat the rest of the civillians w/ great fairness fearing that theyll try to kill you
- knowing what I know about that pis*hole country and its people Id say a 100KPH is too slow......I used to ride on top of a 113 in hostile vills and we didnt slow down for squat
- because the Taliban has re-asserted itself in that area, and we are crushing them like the filth they are. any other obvious questions you need answered Komrade?
- The Americans think they rule the world and every one should respect them no matter what they do. Im sure they would not like soem country doing that to their country. They just cant be nice adn help out they have to shoot and kill people all the time. This is what i think and i know there are people out there that think the same.
- I think you are a security risk who should be back at Benning peeling potatoes. Ooooh! They're sooo aggressive. I don't believe you are there at all. I think you are sitting at home eating girl scout cookies and disrespecting your country. I sure hope they are aggressive with damn taliban leaders going around in burkas.
- It's only in the lawless areas like Kandahar (full of terrorist sympathisers) where the Americans aren't welcome. Elsewhere they're helping rebuild the country and are tolerated by the people.
- Why don't people mind there own business and keep out of other countries, ''talk about dictators''
